I’m beginning to think that the photos I like the most are the ones that seem to capture my feeling of the time I took them. I’m not sure what I mean by that. Initially I thought it was the emotion I was feeling at the time, but that’s not quite right. Emotions are fast, arbitrary; this is something that evolves, over seasons and years.
It’s definitely not what I was thinking when I took the picture. Usually that’s just “ooh, a tree” or—worse—“one frame left, how do I finish the roll?” This one is one of those. Even though I like the picture, it feels a little devalued by that.
