One reason that one camera, one lens, one film doesn’t work for me is that while I’m primarily a colour photographer I do also enjoy black and white. Most days I go for colour, but some days just happen to be black and white days. Today was a black and white day. It’s never a conscious decision, and I can’t fight it.
I take different pictures on black and white days. I’ve been looking over some of my more recent stuff, trying to put my finger on what it is, but I didn’t get much further than “I’m more likely to take pictures of objects on colour days”. I do know I like a slightly less wide lens on black and white days, 35mm instead of 28 maybe. I know they’re so similar it should hardly matter, but it does. I lift the camera to my eye and what I expect to see isn’t there.
